India wants to be a superpower. Why not? – By Prof R.R.Pillai

And so they all want to make India a Superpower by 2020. Our leaders and the people who matter much are at it day and night. My only advice is that they must go on and on. The Mayavatis must go on and must go on building any number of her statues even while she is still alive. She should take care to have more folds on her dress to splurge with ease. And the Dr Singhs, the PMs and the CMs must go on overshooting the budget for social spending and ballooning the deficit and then wonder how to rein in the deficit. They must go on accumulating tons and tons of gold in the hope of fixing the fiscal profligacy, so that one day they can distribute pieces of gold to the poor to alleviate poverty instead of the mid-day meals of today.

The Telgis and the Harshads and the Satyams should go on with their scams and cheat the system full of loop-gates. And the makers of laws and regulations should go on making more laws full of loop-gates.

The Rahuls should go on visiting more Dalits and more Kalavatis and eat, live and dine for days and for that matter nights, so that he can get more credit for the victory of the party, instead of attributing this victory to the ballooning spending on anti-poverty programmes that turn mysteriously into pro-party programmes through the well-known measure of 80:20 share between those who are the go-getters of votes and those who actually are to get the spent money respectively.

And the BJP and the RSS should go on tearing each other apart to establish who really is in control of the party till the organization itself breaks into smithereens.

The Hasan Alis and the Kodas should go on siphoning the state’s wealth and accumulate billions in Swiss Banks and the government of the day should continue its lifestyle in self denial, while the vast majority should go on living and working under the burden of higher taxes, higher prices and subsistence wages.

And the Dhirubhais and their ilk should go on being placed more on the postage stamps for their nexus entrepreneurship and for delay of public utility infrastructure projects and cost escalations and attempting to settle family squabbles in courts.

And the courts must go on hearing such cases while reserving judgements on issues of national importance for fear of losing the perks and post-retirement lucrative postings rather than delivering fair and timely justice. And they must go on giving the rulings on certain issues when it is less harming to themselves from wily political motivations than when the nation needs it.

And more Bharat Ratnas should be provided to Latas and Singers and not to the creators and composers of Music, as is the case in the West. Its like giving Bharat Ratnas to a soap manufacturing company for marketing millions and millions of soaps, but not to the researchers and Scientists who toiled with their minds day and night to get that right effect of foaming, fragrance and feel.

The wealthy CMs of states should go on borrowing from World Banks and increase the State’s debts and their personal wealth through siphoning and go on demanding ever-increasing aid from the Central Government too and if it is politically favourable, the Central Government should go on encouraging them to borrow, siphon, spend, in the same order, creating holes after holes in the budget.

And the  Politicians-cum-Educationists and  Controllers of Sweet Produces of the likes of Kadams and Pawars and Deshmukhs should go on building more factories and more colleges in a move to accumulate unaccounted money than to provide the essentials at fair price or effective and empowering education.

And the Lalus should go on and on with secular vs. communal analysis even as their performances are dubious and continue to claim honours not really due. The increased tonnage of hauling, without bothering about the fractures that could be caused to the railway lines and that much more capital expenditure would be incurred in the future than the revenue profits of today should not weigh on their minds.

And the Harvards should go on appreciating men of such dubious distinction and should go on learning about their mistakes through many more classroom seminars, discussions, debates and dissertations.

And the Ministers of Agriculture should go on increasing the MSP (Minimum Support Price) before elections to gather election funding and go on increasing the prices of essentials post elections and make the masses helpless till the next elections.

Tax-free agriculture income should go on and on even if many of the rich farmers drive Mercedes and Enjoy lifestyle luxuries be they drinks, clothes or footwear while the urban dwellers should go on paying tax even on their not so great incomes and suffer the lack of even the ordinary amenities.

States like Punjab should go on providing free electricity to farmers and the PMs should endorse it under the umbrella of protecting the terrorised State even though that happened in the distant past, and more states should go on competing to create more and more holes in the budget through freebies instead of plugging the revenue leakages and siphoning.

The Kalainghars should go on writing more filmy dialogues and get awarded many more Doctorates and go on paying the Rajas for their conquests, not so valiant and mitigating, even while the masses are toiling to just lift their heads above water.

And the caste- caretakers should go on adding more to the list of OBCs and nourish fresh vote-banks even as merit and fairness are crying hoarse for a fair deal.

And the minority appeasing states should go on showering more on them even though the government is secular and such appeasing is unconstitutional and should go on till the balloon is pricked by violent means by the followers of the constitution.

And the English channels and the print media should go on with their pro-congress insights and analysis while the language channels should go on with their spicy and petty sensationalizations for TRPs. They should go on existing more for Ad revenues than for baring the truth and building fair opinions necessary for survival of democracy.

Go on everybody. Go on governments. Go on builders of nations. Go on and on with the wrongs. Go on turning a blind eye to the plundering and storing of the nation’s wealth in the Swiss Banks. Go on taxing the merit and avoid a right seat for the merit.  One day you will be super India. When? In 2020?

Let me stop and do my work fairly today. Then maybe 2020 will not be just another year in India’s history.
